In de Waag

Restaurant-Café In de Waag is located in one of the oldest city gates (1488) of Amsterdam and now forms the imposing center of the Nieuwmarkt, an ideal point to start or end your day in Amsterdam. Originally, the city gate was part of the medieval city walls along the current Singel, Kloveniersburgwal and Geldersekade. Nowadays the only remaining city gates are In de Waag and the Munttoren. The name 'Waag' was later assigned to the building, named after one of the many functions the building has had. A weigh house was a building where goods were weighed, city traders were obliged to have their goods weighed here in order to promote fair trade in the city center.

Unique ambiance

When you enter the restaurant you will find many original aspects so that the interesting history can still be felt. The interior of In de Waag is illuminated at night by 300 candles for an authentic and romantic atmosphere. In good weather you have a beautiful view from the terrace of the lively square of the Nieuwmarkt. The building has several attractive spaces, suitable for small and large private groups.
